Dr. Dave Houglum

Coach, Consultant, & Owner

I earned a Bachelors of Science (B.S.) in Psychology from Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, Washington) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Leadership from Gonzaga University (Spokane, Washington). This academic training in Leadership Studies prepared me with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to serve and lead effectively, as well as utilize my education to make a difference as a leadership educator, coach, administrator, and scholar.

Over the past 17 years, I have conducted leadership coaching, consulting, and education for numerous sectors including for-profit business, non-profit, education (K-12 and higher education) healthcare, public/government, churches/clergy, collegiate and professional athletes and coaches, and the military.

I currently work as the Director of Leadership and Leadership Professor of Practice in the Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation at the University of Portland in Portland, Oregon where I oversee all aspects of the Leadership Program, including training and educating faculty and staff leadership coaches and instructors (Leadership Fellows), creating and teaching on-campus leadership courses as well as global leadership courses and experiences (in places such as Zambia, Philippines, Nicaragua, India, and New Zealand), strategic planning, marketing, and assessment.

I also have served as a faculty member in Gonzaga University's Master's in Organizational Leadership program since 2012 and have taught courses such as: Foundations of Leadership, Transforming Leadership, Servant Leadership, Introduction to Global Systems, and Intercultural and International Communication (Leadership and Diversity).

Additionally, I am a published author and serve as a scholarly manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Leadership Education and the Journal of Leadership Studies and have recently presented at the top-tier International Leadership Association Global Conferences most recently in Brussels, Belgium, West Palm Beach, Florida, Ottawa, Canada, and San Francisco (virtual). I served on the Board of Directors for the Maybelle Center for Community in downtown Portland, Oregon for six years and deeply value serving with and for others. I have been married to my wife Melissa for 13 years and we have three children. We also have a friendly golden retriever named Honey.
